The UR-110 is a new watch from Urwerk, released during SIHH last month. While in Geneva, we took a look at this new piece through four seasons and asked one of its product engineers to explain it to us.
The case of the UR-110 is made of grade 5 titanium and features a stainless steel bezel. The satellite-based movement took the entire team almost 2 years to develop. It consists of a central dial that provides stability and balance to the mechanism; planetary gears ensure that the three-hour satellites rotate in parallel as they orbit the dial; and three counter-rotating hour modules - each containing an hour satellite, minute hand and Balance wheel - mounted on a planetary gear. The UR-110 passed the "under the cuff" test. It might even be designed for it.
Additionally, the UR-110 features small seconds, a day/night indicator, and our all-time favorite Urwerk oil change indicator, which tells the wearer when service is required.
The watch is regulated by the hydrodynamics of twin air turbines with the express aim of limiting wear on the one-way rotors.
